He is the general counsel and director of programs from the Illinois Guardianship and Advocacy Commission and past president of the National Guardianship Association.
Guardianships also can be tremendously adversarial, Wank said. Sometimes, the elderly person actively resist being assigned a guardian. Friends and family, whether intentionally or not, can create more chaos and complicate the process, especially when there is disagreement between family members.
What elder would not resist being stripped of their rights? When someone points out that family and friends can be chaotic (emotional) then they have a tendency to prey on those families.
